This is a plastic boning for corsetry, costume and dressmaking which is known as "synthetic whalebone" because it is smooth and translucent, fine, flexible and strong - just like real whalebone but without the cruelty to whales!
It works well in corsetry and dress making where you need many bones without weight. For example in 17th c stays or early Victorian corsetry where modern shaping is not important.
It can be cut with scissors and filed with a regular emery board. It's very easy and quick to use making it ideal for starter corsets and novelty costumes.
This synthetic whalebone will provide medium support in corsets and firmer support in bodices and where you need to bone period clothing which is going over a corset, a jacket for instance.
Also very suitable for swimwear as it is completely waterproof!
Available in 6mm width and two thicknesses:
6mm x 1mm thick is good for support in targetted areas or stays where lots of boning is needed. This weight is nice and light.
6mm x 1.5mm thick is comparable with real whalebone and good for period corsetry or swimwear or for supplementing steel boning where lightness is needed.
Priced per metre - order more than one and it will be sent in a continduous length.
