POWDER COATING FAQ Q: How durable is the powder coating. A: The Sew Curvy coloured busks are powder coated in a local metal finish factory who also finish all sorts of industrial items from car parts to garden furniture. Because of the nature of busk use and what they are made of (stainless steel), there is no way to guarantee that they are 100% chip proof, however, with careful handling, the busk will resist chipping.
Q: Why are there little marks/bumps on my busk? A: The busks have to be slightly altered before coating, a hole must be drilled and the original plastic end coating removed. Therefore there may be some metal show through around the hole. Some other marks on the body of the busk are there as a result of coating many busks at once in an industrial atmosphere, but these will not affect the quality of the busk. Marks on the body of the busk (the bits that are covered up by fabric) will not affect the performance of either the busk or the powder coating and will not be visible when the busk is in use. We personally check each and every busk we send out for marks and burrs, however, if you are concerned about any rough edges, a metal file can be used to smooth the area. then a nail file can be used to smooth out the mark.
Q: Why are there holes in the ends of the busk A: The holes are used to suspend the busks in the powder coating oven - the whole lot is powdered, hooks and all, then heated up in the industrial oven. After processing and curing, the busks are removed from the hooks. The only other way to coat the busks would be to hang them paired, by the loop side which would cause a discrepancy in the important part of the finish.
