*** CONTINUOUS SPIRAL STEEL IS NOW SOLD OUT UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2021.
PLEASE CHECK THE REMNANTS SECTION FOR ODD LENGTHS AVAILABLE ***
Because we have such a huge selection of pre-cut spiral boning in a selection of weights, we are now providign continuous spiral steel by 5m increments. This will cover projects where lengths of more than 44cm length is required - this may be something like a corset dress where a full roll of 25m will cover your needs very well.
For all other projects, pre-cut boning is available in three weights and 2 widths, alongside our pre-cut flat spring steel boning available in two widths, two weights and up to 40 sizes.
Information on boning types follows, so that you can make an informed choice on what you require.
Spiral wire boning flexes in all directions and is therefore particularly suitable for curved areas like the bust or for particularly rounded hips. Spiral steel wire can be used in the entire corset except the centre back edges where flat steel boning is preferable.
The following is a small guide for how to use each gauge of spiral steel:
Very delicate light boning which is used in fully boned corsets where you have a steel extending over the corset from every available space around the waist line. This is a very specialist boning and not suitable for standard corsetry. Available by special order, 4-6 week delivery lead time, min order of 150m.
Heavier than the 4mm and is suitable for all forms of standard corsetry where a more delicate look is required. Don't be fooled by the delicate look though, 5mm spiral boning gives good strong support when coupled with a strong coutil structure in corsetry. This boning is also suitable for use in dress bodices and gowns where lighter but supportive boning is required.
Standard size corset boning and the most commonly used where the corset has one bone on each seam. This boning is good for all corset making applications including for corsets and dress foundations and is very easy to use.
Will give a firmer control than the standard weight, but in regular corsetry this is only necessary where less curve is required or where the wearer of the corset is of fuller figure and requires a little extra help. This boning however, comes into it's own with heavily beaded corsetry or other very heavily embellished corsetry or costumes where there are additional structures attached to the corset.
The widest spiral boning available and most commonly used where a very strong support is required. This is very much dependant on the design and purpose of the corset and the preference of the eventual wearer. Available via special order with a 4-6 week lead time and minimum order of 200m.
Priced per 5 metre roll, please make your selection from the options below.
